GNOME Terminal & Open Office will not open

Following my other thread, I've got a relatively clean F9 install which I have downgraded Xorg on to get legacy Nvidia drivers to install. After enabling monitor spanning and doing a couple of hours worth of work, I can't get GNOME terminal or Open Office to open. They show up in the taskbar when I click, then go away after a few seconds.
