Configure shortcut volume control fedora 8 ?

Hi All,
I'm using Fedora 8 on Dell 1520. While logged in as non-root user, to increase or decrease volume
I need enter root password through the "sound card detection" link.
Want to use multimedia keys provided for volume control, any ideas on this.

It's painful to provide root pwd every time just to increase volume.

Any help is appreciated

I use Amarok on my F8 x64 KDE system. It has the option to set keys for particular actions under Settings - Configure Shortcuts. Works well on my 1520.
I'm guessing other apps have similar options.

you should be able to set them using keyboard shortcuts
in a terminal type gnome-keybinding-properties it should work for you, as it worked for me and i have the same laptop
