how to set gnomeplyer as default player

hai guys,
i have several players installed. out of them only gnom-player is working well. others work not at all. So i want to make my default player for multimedia files gnome-plyaer how to du this?. if i double click on a movie it opens in other applications and close downs. without playing.

i cant set each and evrey file to open with gnomeplayer. i have to generalise the player.

do i have to log in as root?

instead of doing step one, find "configuration editor" in the "system" or "applications" menu. i forget where it is exactly.
