kde4, bad icons in system tray
Hello all!
I have KDE4 and a strange problem with system tray icons.
Instead of normal icons some of them are white squares and stay in that condition all the time.
Mouse over them, left or right click on them has no any effect.

Yes I have a snapshot, but I can't understand how to attach picture here.
Should I put it to some http server and post link here?

Hello Comrad
Don't feel bad about it.
KDE4 is not ready for real work yet and a lot of us are hoping that it will be greatly improved when 4.1 comes out hopefully at the end of this month.
The notification area icons are one of the problems at present. Sometimes the NetworkManager one refuses to even put in an appearance.
I can tell you also that from login to having the KDE4 desktop up and running with whatever is going to appear in the notification area in place can take longer than the same process in Windows XP.
That's got to be a record that no programer would want.

Ok, can you mouse over one of the offending icon, wait a few seconds, it should tell you what it is.

Hello marcrblevins
I've got access to seven installations of Fedora 9 with KDE4 and I can assure you that all of them exhibit this behaviour in one way or another though not quite to the extreme of Comrad's.
I thought it was just normal for KDE4 in its current state.
I'd be interested to hear that yours doesn't do this and if you've got a fix.

Mine is partially working, I didn't do squat to fix it. The image before the powerplug doesn't show anything. See my latest desktop, attached.

marcrblevins, when I move mouse over such an icon and wait for a long time - nothing happens, absolutely. Also neither left, nor right mouse click can do something with it.

My solution to this "problem" was to find the app[lets] responsible (using qps) and terminate them or remove applet from panel.
Maybe not the best way to solve such issues, but effective.

Hello Comrad
Have you managed to update your system since install? I found the problem a lot worse in the KDE 4 that appeared with the installation media.
KDE4 has been updated at least once sinec then, we are on 4.0.5 now I think though I haven't got a KDE4 machine turned on at the moment to check.
I believe the original schedule was for KDE 4.1 to be released towards the end of this month. I guess we'll both be hoping it doesn't slip and a lot of the current problems are cured by then.

bbfuller, yes, I update my system from time to time, but security updates do as soon as possible.
And now I have KDE 4.0.5
Ok, will be waiting for KDE 4.1 release.
