Deleting folders/files from a samba share

I have mounted a samba share. Pretty much everything works as expected (I can read and write to it, as I should be able to), but there are some things that I am unable to delete.

Here is an example

Code:
[dave@dave CVPR2008]$ ls
Conference DVD
[dave@dave CVPR2008]$ rm Conference\ DVD/
rm: cannot remove `Conference DVD/': Is a directory
[dave@dave CVPR2008]$ cd Conference\ DVD/
[dave@dave Conference DVD]$ ls
data
[dave@dave Conference DVD]$ cd data
[dave@dave data]$ ls
cifs7756 cifs7762 cifs776b cifs7777 cifs7782 cifs778e
[dave@dave data]$ rm cifs7756
rm: cannot remove `cifs7756': No such file or directory
[dave@dave data]$ cd cifs7756
bash: cd: cifs7756: No such file or directory
I thought it was a permissions thing, so I did

Code:
[dave@dave data]$ ls
cifs7756 cifs7762 cifs776b cifs7777 cifs7782 cifs778e
[dave@dave data]$ chmod a+rwx *
[dave@dave data]$ rm cifs7756
rm: cannot remove `cifs7756': No such file or directory
but it still didn't work.

Anyone know why this might be?

Thanks,

Dave

take a look at
rm --help
you will find that the -r and -I options will help
Code:
rm -RI DVD

very odd... I didn't even notice the names of the files... cifsXYZW - they seem to be some sort of temp files. Some googling turned up others with similar problems but they were simply able to delete the files and they disappeared. I tried to rm them again today and it worked! - must have been some kind of timeout by the cifs mount? or it realized the files that these cifs files were temp files for were no longer there?

bizarre..
