Need of ddns by dhcp

Hello,

I have at home a small ethernetnetwork.
I use fix ip-adresses.

I have a connection to internet via my router/switch.

I want to add now a DHCP-server functionality to my Fedora8 box.
I do NOT have a DNS -server running locally.

My question :

What to do with the ddns. . . stuff in the dhcp.conf ?

What is the minimal configuration for dhcp.conf.

Afterwarts I want to extend the dhcp functionality for use with pxe.

BUT : I want to know what each line does in my dhcp.conf.
So I will not enter a lot of lines without knowing why it is good for.

Who can explain me some essential stuff.

Does nobody knows (or can explain in simple words) what the meaning of ddns-update-style, ddns-update in the dhcp.conf ?

If you don't have a DNS server, then set "ddns-update-style none;" and "ddns-updates off;". All configuration options are explained in "man dhcpd.conf".

Thanks for you feedback.
Do you know why sometimes ad-hoc mode is used ? (seams to be "old" functionality)

Do I understand it well that if I do not run a DNS-server on my own, I do NOT need ddns-update-style. (ddns-update-style=none)

When I use the dns-server as only dns-server, is this considered as NOT having a dns-server running?

I have a small SOHO. Until now I used fixed IP-address. I want to extent it with a basic dhcp functionality (only to be aible to have web-acces on the first step. Afterwarts I plan to start SAMBA to implement printer-sharing and file-sharing).
