Installation not working correctly..

Alright, well I just downloaded core 2 x86 for my compy to install. I burned them to CDs at 8x, blah blah blah. I booted up to CD 1, hit enter, and it hangs on
Code:
<6>USB Universal Host Controller Interface Driver v2.2
Makes sense, sorta, since RH9 also did this on USB detection..although it did not several months ago, it does now.

So, I use the linux nousb option, and I get to the blue screen..thing. It asks for a media check, I checked the first CD, it passed, and I skipped the rest as those aren't the problem right now.

After the media check part, a bunch of random characters show up--about 10-20 lines of it. It's the same every time but that's beside the point. It doesn't do anything. I tried installing to text mode, and it didnt work either.

My hardware:
Dell Dimension 2350
Pentium 4 2.20GHz
768MB RAM
hard disk partition with RH9 installed..but only text mode as the X server doesn't work..
Radeon 7500 (ATI All-In-Wonder VE)
Dell 48x CD-ROM (For boot)

If anyone can help me with this, I'd thank you a ton! Until then, I've gotta boot back into windows..

Me thinks something be wrong with the hardware. When you boot up the FC2 installation CDs, try running the memory test. It could be a bad RAM stick somewhere in your system which is causing problems. Just run it to be sure.

Alright, I tried that and it didn't work, but I used linux nousb noprobe memtest86 and I got into anaconda and installed just fine. I'm having problems related to the USB now when booting up:

Right after it sets the hostname, the boot up process stops. I switched back to text mode to see what it was and it said this:
Code:
Initializing USB controller (ehci-hcd): [FAILED]
Initializing USB controller (uhci-hcd):   {cursor}
I tried entering interactive startup, but it kind wouldn't let me.

How do I get USB to work?! And more importantly, how to boot up WITH USB working.

Thanks for any help.

I can get on using interactive mode, but that's hard to catch. The nousb option on bootup makes the system hang after loading CUPS, my system reboots if I dont hit enter on GRUB at the EXACT right moment.

I have the same system and same problem. I'll even add that I upgraded the bios. There is one other oddity... the system reboots upon selecting Linux from Grub. This happens several times untill it by accident will decompress the kernel.

I'm here looking for something to add to grub.conf or fstab or other to get past the cups problem. :/

I also have a Dell 2350 with the same problem.

This is how I got it to continue booting:

As root, edit /etc/modprobe.conf with the following:

# commented out next line so I could boot up
#alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd

Now it boots and I have noticed no ill effects.
