Duplicate Labels

Yesterday I had to re-install Vista on my dual-boot Dell XPS M1530.
After that of course the MS stuff had overwritten the bootloader and grub is gone.
Nothing new so far.

Normally I just boot with my Fedora installation disk in rescue mode and fix this.

This time however, I got the message that I have duplicate labels:
Multiple Devices on System are labeled 07D8-0503.
I know these are not the linux partitions.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

[update]
I found out with blkid that there are two windows partitions (Dell MediaDirect and Dell Utility) with the same UUID (not the same label!) which is indeed 07D8-0503.

Is there a way to change these UUIDs?

Why do you have to fix it if they are not the linux partitions? Won't the rescue mode mount your normal linux partitions?

I agree that these non-linux partitions should be ignored, but the reality is that anaconda rescue mode does not ignore them.
The problem is that anaconda want me first to solve this problem of duplicate labels (duplicate UUIDs).
So I cannot rescue my system yet.

With respect tot the link.
tune2fs does work for ext2 (probably also for ext3), but officially does not support vfat.
I can try of course...

[Update]
Unfortenately it does not work for vfat partitions.

It's not really a UUID it's a Windows VSN (Volume Serial Number). Have a look at this link for some info on changing it:

Anyhow I would change one digit, rescue your system then change it back in case it breaks some Dell feature.

You don't need rescue mode. Just install grub back to the MBR to overwrite that virus you put on.

grub-install /dev/sd?

Problem solved, although not the way I wanted it to be solve.

Somehow I messed up my partition table after playing with tune2fs. Got stuck in Dell MediaDirect (which I never use).
Every time I tried to boot it 'resumed Dell MediaDirect' followed by an error message that I could not access the HD.

Also Vista & Fedora installation DVDs had problems, with the harddisk. I started the gparted live cd and after that my harddisk was clean (no partitions at all present)!

Now I have kicked-out Dell MediaDirect (saving two small partitions, i.e., the partitions with the same UUID/VSN) and re-installed Vista&Fedora 9.

Everything works fine now.
