Trouble finding software repos'

I just started working at a new company where they had a vps running Fedora they wish for me to administrate. I am unfermiliar with fedora and those who set up the vps did not install yum. I installed yum from source but am currently unable to get any software repositories working. Can someone please post a working yast.conf file or something to get me pointed in the right direction? My needs are very basic.

Thanks,
Mike

for 32 bit you might want to have a look here
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources
and for example fedora 8 and yum
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...ra-f8.html#yum

Fedora Core release 4 (Stentz)

It is running on a virtual private server so all I know is what they told me.

Can i use yum with it?

uname -r says

There are no repositories for Fedora 4 anymore,
the current version of Fedora is 9.
It might be kind of hard to administer F4.

Fedora repos don't sit around forever, they go obsolete and
are eventually taken down.
You can see here that the oldest Fedora with repository support
now is "7"

Ouch. Well, there's one problem: FC4 has been end-of-life for quite a long time (~2+ years ?). So, most of the software repository mirrors have probably closed their FC4 repos. Which would be why you can't find any. The Fedora Project repo will probably still be open, but there certainly haven't been and won't be any more updates - whatever is in there, is there, no more will be added or updated.

Mike

If you do go to do another install I would strongly discourage Fedora. It's support life is just too short ( 1 year). With cost being an issue for all of us, I would suggest Centos. Centos is RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) with the logos removed. It is free to download and upgrade, has a five year support life, and is very stable. All they do is take RHEL's source packages, strip out anything propriety (mostly logos), and compile. I have yet to see a RHEL package(rpm) that will not run on Centos.

In the meantime, it seems that we didn't answer your question, and your immediate need: here's links to the original Fedora Project repos:
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu.../linux/core/4/
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...inux/extras/4/
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...ore/updates/4/
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...tes/testing/4/

Trying to find other mirrors/repos that are still alive is probably not worth the time. Although Dries Verachtert seems to still have some fc4 packages available: http://ftp.belnet.be/packages/dries....edora/linux/4/

Once again, a look at the dates will show that none of these packages have been updated in almost two years - and they never will be again. lazlow's suggestion of CentOS sounds like a "good idea".

Good Luck,
V
