Sad Day: George Carlin dead at 71

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,370121,00.html

I didn't always agree with him, nor the language he used, but The world will be a sadder place for his loss.

And why? not for me, as i've never heard about him before!

But now after looking on wikipedia looks like he wasn't a bad man.
Btw, it's always sad when somebody dies....

"Why do they lock gas station bathrooms?" he once mused. "Are they afraid someone will clean them?"
lol, yes, he was probably a funny person.

George Carlin is/was a bit of a cultural icon in the United States of America.

He was a funny guy. Very intellectual, very observant and very real. I liked him. Unfortunately, it is highly doubtful he is in a better place.

I liked Carlin in the old days(60s-80s)...but his political and religious shift in his later years turned me off ...
My condolences to his friends and family.

You have to respect anybody who makes you stop and think.

Hmm... never heard of him before. But the article leans me towards liking him, condolences. I have always found swear censorship EXTREMELY childish. Fear of a few words is a plight on our society. Also considering that anything can offend anyone so making exceptions is foolish.

<sigh>

yeah...The things that should offend us are now being shoved in our faces while those things that we should shout from the rooftops are now considered offensive.

Why is it okay to purposely offend someone? I have used language that would make YOU blush, in fact, I am ashamed to admit this is still a major flaw with me. But I was brought up to respect those around me. Why is this wrong?

I used to think much like you. Now I am old and I have kids. I dont want my kids hearing F this and F that everywhere they go the same as I dont want them seeing guys kissing or thinking porn is okay.

I truly hope your views change as you mature. Some people do, some dont. There was nothing wrong with Carlin's brand of humour in the right place. I greatly enjoyed the man, though I too disagreed with his politics and other views. That doesnt matter though, he was an entertainer. But offensive material should never be forced on anyone.

Funny how some of these folks haven't heard of him. It's like another forum, where only half the people who saw LOTR had read the books.
Jn4, we're not young anymore.... on the other hand, immaturity can be a lifetime decision.

George Carlin made me laugh many times, and I think the world was a better place for him having been here.

I know many people wish to control somebody else, but that's wrong. People that spread some morality within repression or restriction are too bad. Look at the Catholic sexual morality... or the Islamic sexual morality about gays... well, they both are synonymous of hate, discrimination and dead.
I know teach to children that "porn is bad" sounds like something of good, but where there are repression, there are curiosity...
And there are also the necessity to know how the World works. You cannot think to let grow your children inside a sphere of rubber. The world is bad and cruel, let them know what they are going to face. Concealing the truth or teaching a wrong image of the world will only causes problems.... and wars.
Porn is a choice, they can ignore it if they want. And seeing guys kissing is just normal and you have to be happy for them as if they are happy, there are nothing to hide or fight.

George Carlin was one of, if not my favorite, comedian. Watched him from the 'hippy dippy weatherman' series and for all the years afterward. He was rebellious but always used intelligent humor and was a class act to the end. A sad day, indeed.

Without getting into it, your attitude is wrong. People today like to think there is no right or wrong, no truth. Your truth is supposed to be different from my truth. Brother, there is only ONE truth! Right is right and wrong is wrong. We all have a guide as to what is right and wrong. If YOU choose not to follow that then it is your eternity. But dont try to tell me YOUR right is the truth. It is not. If two guys want to kiss then I suppose that is their business. But I will not pretend it is right. It is not. If my son wants to look at porn when he grows up, the same as i have viewed porn in the past then fine, it is his choice. but it is not okay. Porn is harmful, not only to the viewer but to the numerous people it exploits starting with the "models." I wont argue what is right or wrong with you. I know what is right and what is wrong. You apparently do not. That is between you and your creator. You can call me narrow minded, blind, foolish or whatever. I care not. This world lasts for a wisp, then it is gone. I have ensured my salvation. I am not perfect, I am a sinner. I know there is no way any one of us could ever begin to uphold the law. Not man's law. I understand how it works. You do not yet. Maybe one day you will. I pray that is the case. I try my best to show my fellow man the way. As best I can without breaking the rules or offending anyone with the one message of truth. As it is I have severely bent the rules of this forum with this post. I do not apologize for that, but I will stop now. I will not respond to another post in this thread, if you wish to continue this conversation then by all means please PM me. I will spend as much time as you desire. But do not try to convince me that wrong is right. It is not. Period.

Thanks for suggesting the PM route, JN. Good choice for this kind of topic.
