Bluetooth not working in my Dell Inspiron e1505 under Fedora Core 9

Hi FC Experts,

I have a problem activating bluetooth in FC 9 in my Dell Inspiron e1505 laptop..

my system specs

Dell Inspiron e1505
Intel Core Duo 1.83 Ghz x 2 CPU
1 GB DDR RAM,
160 GB HDD...
Dell(TM) Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module

I have installed Fedora Core 9 as a Dual-boot with Vista...my bluetooth works fine with Vista..but NOT in FC 9...i believe i miss drivers or something...i have been searching ever since i installed Fedora Core 9 a few days ago to make my bluetooth work..but with NO success...

some steps i have carried out....

[root@myFedoraCore9 ~]# hcitool dev
Devices:
[root@myFedoraCore9 ~]# hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device
[root@myFedoraCore9 ~]# service bluetooth status
hcid (pid 2347) is running...

and a snippet from dmesg follows...

[root@myFedoraCore9 ~]# dmesg | grep Blue
Bluetooth: Core ver 2.11
Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized
Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized
Bluetooth: L2CAP ver 2.9
Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized
Bluetooth: RFCOMM socket layer initialized
Bluetooth: RFCOMM TTY layer initialized
Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.8
Bluetooth: BNEP (Ethernet Emulation) ver 1.2
Bluetooth: BNEP filters: protocol multicast

Could someone help me get started with my bluetooth....if i get help for this, i would never boot into my Vista except rarely....

Thanks for your time folks...

Hope some gr8 mind(s) is(are) working out there to fix this simple glitch...

I'm not sure, I have a different bluetooth device, but I have to put 'blacklist pegasus' in my /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist file. It would register the device, but whenever I tried to scan for something, it wouldn't run.

Run dmesg and find anything related to your bluetooth device and post it. It's possible it's trying to use a driver that doesn't work well with it. Hence why I had to put 'blacklist pegasus' in my blacklist file.

try running this as root:

/sbin/hid2hci

then try the hcitool again. if that works then see here for a permanent fix:

Bluetooth not working on Inspiron 9300

I am having a similar problem to the one posted above. My phone can't see my laptop and vice versa, although hcitool dev does show a device. Ideas?

[root@tuxbox ~]# dmesg | grep Blue
Bluetooth: Core ver 2.11
Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized
Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized
Bluetooth: HCI USB driver ver 2.9
Bluetooth: L2CAP ver 2.9
Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized
Bluetooth: BNEP (Ethernet Emulation) ver 1.2
Bluetooth: BNEP filters: protocol multicast
Bluetooth: RFCOMM socket layer initialized
Bluetooth: RFCOMM TTY layer initialized
Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.8
[root@tuxbox ~]# hcitool dev
Devices:
hci0 00:106:EC:E3:E5
[root@tuxbox ~]# hcitool scan
Scanning ...
[root@tuxbox ~]# service bluetooth status
hcid (pid 2072) is running...

running /usr/sbin/hid2hci as root returned "No devices in HID mode found"...see below...

[root@myFC9 sbin]# /usr/sbin/hid2hci
No devices in HID mode found

hence, this one is not going to work for me...however, on another forum or email thread (i don't remember exactly whether it is a forum or Dell's US Support forum), I once noticed one user who had the same problem but said, if he leaves Bluetooth on in Windows and reboots into Fedora Core, the bluetooth works just fine..

it happens to me too...if i leave bluetooth turned on in Vista and reboot into FC9, i am able to connect with my Nokia E61i bluetoothly in FC9...both push and receive works just beautifully...so, i am using this as workaround...as something is better than nothing...

as a matter of factly, this also rules out that FC9 doesn't have built-in driver support for Dell's in-built Bluetooth adapter..

i am gonna wait until someone finds a permanent fix for this issue...

thanks a bunch guys...!!!

i can scan just fine with hcitool and it detects devices, its showing up as running in service, but there is no indication in the Fedora 9 GUI of any devices, cant see my Fedora on my phone via bluetooth. Checked the settings on Bluetooth Manager and its set to show.

Hi
I have similar problems that you,
I would connect my HTC touch diamond with my fedora 8 ( 2.6.25.14-69?fc8), the both see themselves.
transfert by using gnome-obex-server works in 2 directions, but without, all transfert are down.
I would synchronize too my contacts and calendar, but it doesn't works anymore.
I don't know how and which files we have to configure on the laptop : hcid.conf, etc...

if anyone found a solution , could he please detail it? thank you in advance. I've just buy my HTC and I begin to regret...)

Dose anyone know if this is a bug, or are we just missing something?
