F9 Not keeping terminal window positions

something is wrong with gnome in that loging out of a user and logging back in - the former window size and positions of windows (terminal, gedit, nautilus) are not being kept - especially true when I have several workspaces. This is a real pain - worked fine in Ubuntu Gutsy (not sure about Hardy)
