Partition table error on F9 install

I'm trying to install F9.

I previously had F8 and I usually use the liveCD to upgrade. However I got this error:

"The partition table on device sda was unreadable. To create new partitions it must be initialized, causing the loss of ALL DATA on this drive.

This operation will override any previous installation choices about which drives to ignore.

Would you like to initialize this drive, erasing ALL DATA?"

If I initialize the drive I presumably lose all data inc. my Windows vista partition, which I need for work. I deleted the ext3 partition with the GParted live CD (which didn't show my windows partition at all..weird) and then was going to make a new ext3 partition using the GParted live CD but it shows the whole of sda as "unallocated" which isn't true as I have my Windows partition...so I don't want to create a new partition in case it screws with my Windows one..

I had to repair the master boot record with Bootrec to remove grub from the boot record so I could access my Vista partition, which works fine...but I still get the above error when trying to install F9 from the Live CD or from DVD iso..

I just re-partitioned the free space that was formerly my F8 partition as an NTFS partition in Windows..still get the same error..

I've never has this happen on an upgrade before...any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time !
