F8 -> F9 dual head woes on IBM T42 laptop (Radeon 7500)

Hello,

I've performed a yum upgrade from F8 to F9 (after waiting a couple of weeks for F9 to settle down) and all went smoothly except for Xinerama dual head, which is a must-have for me. Sadly, I have spent many hours searching these forms, Googling and hacking to try to get it working, all to no avail. It did work fine in F8.

Questions:
  1. Has anybody made this work in F9 for an ATI RV200 card? If so, could you please post your xorg.conf.
  2. Does anybody know if this is impossible so far in F9 while Xorg is still under development?
  3. Is Xorg the sole problem here? I downgraded all the F9 Xorg packages to F8 and was still unsuccessful. (see attached script)
  4. Is Xinerama now deprecated and xrandr should be used instead? I saw comments to this effect in the Ubuntu forms.
  5. Am I missing something?

I'm also posting my working xorg.conf file for F8.

Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Problem solved (or kludged, rather).

In addition to replacing all the F9 xorg* packages with their F8 counter-parts, I further downgraded to xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.6.3-2.fc7.i386. This did the trick.

I also downgraded to system-config-display-1.0.51-4.fc8.noarch because this is buggy and I saw several related threads complaining about this. It refused to save the Dual Monitor settings. If you run this from the command line, you will see squawking from the python script.

Also, I downgraded GDM to gdm-2.20.1-5.fc8.i386. The F9 version is rather lame as well as currently in development. I like my personal login picture.

Now I have a functional hybrid F7-F8-F9 system. I guess this is what happens when you start falling behind on the hardware and the ever-advancing software forgets about you.

Someday, I will restore all the F9 packages except the F7 ati radeon driver and see if it works. As for now, I will leave well enough alone!
