Compiz Animation F8

Hi All,

I have running my F8 for some time.
However, I'm still unable to use the Compiz Animations ( you know: fold, explode, zoom, etc.)

I have a Thinkpad T60 with ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. The first time I installed F8, I couldn't use "Desktop Effects". Later, I found out my video driver was wrong so I installed a new one from Livna repository: yum install kmod-fglrx

And also installed the following packages:

* emerald-themes
* compiz-fusion-extras
* emerald
* compiz-fusion
* compiz-manager
* compiz-fusion-extras-gnome
* gnome-compiz-manager
* libcompizconfig
* compiz-fusion-gnome
* ccsm

Great! "Desktop Effects" actually work!
I have wobbly windows, they fade when minimized. I can see the cube...
However, someday I wanted to have "fold" effect to minimize windows. So, I went to System --> Preferences --> Look And Feel --> "CompizConfig Settings Manager" --> Effects --> Animations,

There I chose the "fold" effect to minimize windows, but, nothing happened!
In fact, Nothing I change using the "CompizConfig Settings Manager" works!
I can disable Wobbly and fade windows, and also the cube behavior, using GL Desktop.

But I want the "fold" effect to minimize my windows... And being unable to enable it, is killing me!
So, do you guys have any idea of what I'm missing?

Thanks,

I've found problems with that interface... problems so severe that I need to run this command afterwards: "rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/compiz", otherwise it becomes impossible to open any program -- screens blink and window never appears.

As appealing as the compiz management interfaces are, they all suck. Use gconf-editor and navigate to apps/compiz. You can enable and disable specific plugins in apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins. Specific plugins can be modified in /apps/compiz/plugins/pluginname/screen0/options. Sometimes you get a plugin that doesn't work with your hardware and or doesn't work with your hardware the way the plugin is currently configured. I find this with the BLUR plugin -- the default filter 4xBilinear doesn't work, so I have to switch it to Gaussian. This is with nvidia hardware, mind you. Different settings may be appropriate for your hardware.
