Video problems upgrading to Fedora 9

I just upgraded my Intel system from Fedora 8 to Fedora 9. When I boot into the system, I cannot enable Desktop Effects. Also when I log in to a KDE session, I get no window decorations, like a title bar etc., for any opened windows.

I suspect these issue are due to the video driver. My system has an nVidia based graphics adapter.

What can I do to fix these problems?

Maybe this thread will help sort things out for you.

start in safe mode and edit the xorg.conf file, if the driver says vesa, change it to nv

I tried following the directions in the thread. I'm not sure I did everything right as it looked like some tricky operations were glossed over and not covered with a lot of depth.

After going through everything, I'm now left with application that contain no options for configuring compiz. Also, I still have no decorations when I run a KDE session.

A little vague tron_thomas. Compiz can be a pain to get working. Witness the length of that thread and many others on the same subject. I'm certainly no expert on the subject but I wonder what happens when you hit ALT/F2 and type fusion-icon. Do you get a blue icon in the top panel?

I tried running fusion-icon. I did not see anything show up on the screen. What is the top panel? I only have a panel at the bottom of the screen. I am running Gnome, not KDE, at the moment.

The top panel is the bar at the top of the screen with the menu items such as Applications, Places and System. If fusion-icon works there will appear a square blue icon in that panel. Try going through the instructions in that thread. There is a tool called compiz check mentioned there. It will check to see if your system has what's needed to run compiz-fusion. Have you tried that?
