Where are my keyboard shortcuts?
Hey, I made a whole list of keyboard shortcuts, in gnome, and was very happy with them. Then, the next time i started up... they're not working! Most of them at least, alt-tab is working, show desktop, and thats abnout it... I tried setting them all again, setting only one of them... nothing seems to work Any ideas?

Weird. As superbnerd asked, what program are you setting them with? gnome-keybinding-properties? Maybe your gnome session isn't being saved. Do you have more than a "default" session in gnome-session-properties? When you say some hotkeys work, which ones don't? Maybe try clicking the "Save current setup" checkbox on logout.

I'm setting them though the menu > preferneces > keyboard shortcuts... And they don't work when I first set them either... The ones I'm trying to do are:
Eject
Volume Mute
Volume Up/Down
Home
Web Browser
Search
Home Folder
etc.
The ones I know do work are all the ones under the "Window Management" section...

Ahh, that explains it. You've a multimedia/Internet keyboard and you're trying to set those keys. You can't (at least not in FC1) set those using any tools in default Fedora. To set those, what I've done is go to http://lineak.sf.net and download Lineak. It's a great little program that let's you assign commands to those extra buttons.
Go to download, grab the "i386.rpm" version of lineakconfig, then scroll down and grab the lineakd-0.7.2-1.i386.rpm (RedHat) package, install them and read the QUICK SETUP on this page to get set it up:

if you're in fc2 you can use the multimedia keys, easily.
1) Goto Preferences -> Keyboard
2) Click the Layout tab and choose your Keyboard model
3) Goto Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts and configure
You might need to relogin for changes to take affect.

Great to hear, but I think the OP was having problems with the GNOME method so the Lineak program is a good alternative. As to why this configurability wasn't enabled for FC1 is baffling, it could be new code not mature enough when FC1 was released.

Hi,
sorry, I'm new to Fedora (it's great compared to SuSE).
Thanks to superbnerd, his tip solved my problem partially. But three keys still do not work.
I have Fedora installed on a Compaq Presario 900 Series Laptop and this one has 7 additional multimedia keys above the normal keyboard. "Mute", Loudness increase/decrease works great (I was even surprised about the popup in the top left corner). The rest like "i", one with a letter (for email) and one with a magnifying glass do not even tell a response when trying to configure them to their corresponding apps.
Any hints for this?
Regards, Doc

Did you set your keyboard layout model? You might have to search the manufactuer's website to find out the actual model of your keyboard. If you know it buut its not supported, use one that is the closest. They usually use the same keycodes.

Hi,
as I wrote previously I installed FC2 on a Presario notebook. In the keyboard models there's nothing which may fit to that. Currently I use the Generic 105 keyboard layout (with german language, no dead keys).
Unfortunatly the 900 series of the Presario is out-of-date. And so I can say that I'll never get a keyboard layout from them. Or does anyone has one?
Additionally I do not know right now where I can find those keyboard definitions in the directory structure. I know that it is somewhere under /usr/share but not exactly.
Any hints?
Regards, Doc

I have tried installing LinEAK before, but it didn't work. It kept giving errors when trying to parse the configuration file.. line by line it would complain about not knowing the configuration option. Could anyone give a step-by-step HOWTO on this as I really have no idea where I'm going wrong.. I have a Microsoft Natural Multimedia keyboard. The GNOME method doesn't let me use all the keys available.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
*Update* I convinced LinEAK to install, but it still wouldn't use all the keys available.. .. Any ideas on getting these keys to work would be greatly appreciated

Same problem here. I know the actual home key is not allowed but I will usually set the menu key just to right of super r key to be home shortcut and it has always worked and now no matter which key I try and set for home directory shortcut works. It shows as being saved just doesn't work.
