Question Wierd Window Manager Behavior after upgrade from F8 -> F9

I installed F9 over F8 keeping my /home directory intact. This was a full install, not an upgrade. F9 installed OK, but the windows in GNOME are all messed up. The regular top and bottom panels appear and I can click on the individual mini-applications on the panels (date/time, volume control, trash, etc.) and they all work. The menu also works. However, whenever I open an application:

- the window for the new application is being drawn over the top panel so I can't click on the menu/top panel

- the window doesn't have the close/minimize/maximize buttons

- ALT+TAB doesn't work to change windows

Also, the bottom panel has two "Untitled Windows" boxes that cannot be maximized, minimized or closed.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I did search for posts with many of the symptoms above, but couldn't find anything.

Are you using the same user account as well as the same /home dir on F9 as you were in F8? If so, try creating a new user account, log into that new account, and see if the same problems exist

I created a new id and the windows behaved normally - a step in the right direction.

I'm guessing it is a configuration setting in gnome somewhere. I'll start comparing files.

Any ideas of where I should look first?
