Trouble with pcmcia with FC2 on Acer

Hi

I have installed FC2 on Acer Aspire 1355LC and Iwant to use my Netgear MA531, I followed instructions from
http://fedoranews.org/contributors/e_a_graham_jr/ndis/

Everything went well but when I pushed the card in the pcmcia slot the PC freezes and I have to do a hard reboot. I suspect it has to do with the pcmcia.

I followed some advice given on this thread
http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2126

I have tried to do modprobe yenta_socket and restart pcmcia, but in the end the second I push in the card the PC freezes immediately.

Does anyone have any idea about this?

Thanks

RedHat/Fedora kernels and Acer laptops do not get along very well, your best bet iis to download/configure/build your own kernel from http://www.kernel.org/ and please read http://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/K...ild-HOWTO.html before starting.

I think that's a bit of an over generalization. I use an Acer Aspire 1502LMi, and the stock Fedora Core 2 kernel works fine on it.

Hi

I have decided to try and rebuild the kernel, I downloaded the source tarball for linux-2.6.7. Following the instructions, I reached the point of configuring the kernel using xconfig, for the section of plug and play support, the section was empty. Upon selecting "View all options", options appeared for this section but they were all greyed out, is this normal? isint this where my problem starts?

Thanks

You could even try the latest kernels for RedHat by arjanv (who I believe is the maintainer for the redhat kernels). Get them here http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.6/RPMS.kernel/

They seem to work well and I'm currently using the latest kernel from there.

Hi,

I have succesfully compiled the linux 2.6.7 kernel and pcmcia seems to work fine. When I insert the card it is recognised by "cardctl status" and "ndiswrapper -l" commands to be present.

At home I have an "ad-hoc" wireless network with my win xp desktop which doesnt have wep encryption, from the laptop using win xp the interface receives dhcp config and works fine, but when I try ifup wlan0 in fedora, the interface fails to receive dhcp config, I have rechekec the wireless settings 1,000 times.

At Univ there is a "Managed" (AP based) wireless network with wep enabled, no luck their either.

Any help plz?

Are there any utilities that I could use to scan networks etc?

Thanks
