kde 4 panel auto hide
Just loaded fedora 9 and using KDE4 desktop but I'm unable to find a setting to auto hide the panel or to make it transparent. Thanks for the help and I hope I'm ask in the correct forum.

Hello allan_r
I'm afraid that auto-hiding the panel is just one of the things that has not made it across from KDE 3 to 4 so far.
Like you, I miss it and just hope it makes it into KDE 4.1 due late July or thereabouts.
I suspect transparency is also on that list though I haven't looked very hard for it.

If you have updated your kde to 4.1 or upgraded to F10, you'll be able to auto hide your kde panel.
However, it still does not work 100%. For instance, when I select an app from the menu, the panel does not hide automatically, so that the app's window can occupy the screen space where the panel was. Instead, the panel sticks to the desktop and the windows open below it. I have to move the pointer over the panel in order for it to hide again.
I hope that in future kde versions, this bug(?) will be fixed.

I saw that bug too, but it's fixed in F10 KDE-4.2.x from kde-redhat.org. Still present in KDE-4.1.x on F9 though.

Hi, Hlingler.
My F10 is updated, and it still uses kde 4.1.x. However, I'm only using the official fedora and rpmfusion repos.
I went to the site you mentioned ( http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/) and noticed that there's a kde.repo you can include in you /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory. Is from this repository that I'll get a stable version of kde 4.2 for fedora? Do you know if there is no incompatibility with the official kde distribuition from the fedora repo?
Thanks.

(1) I used kde-redhat- testing to get KDE-4.2.0, but it is 'stable' for me
(2) The same person that maintains the Fedora KDE stuff runs kde-redhat repo (Rex Dieter)
(3) YES, there WILL be some compatibility issues. I need to exclude one or two packages.
