how do i configure my XboX 360 - gamepad?

Heyho!
I have a Xbox360-controller and want to use it on my PC to play snes games with zsnes.
I downloaded and compiled zsnes, and it works fine, only the sound is missing (I'll create another topic for that if I don't find anything else).
the real problem is, that i can't use my controller. when i want to set the buttons in zsnes it doesn't react, no matter which button i use on the gamepad (normal keyboard-buttons work fine...but its just not the same).
when running jstest /dev/input/js0 it says:
Code:
[kto@tux kto]# jstest /dev/input/js0
Joystick (Microsoft X-Box 360 pad) has 8 axes and 13 buttons. Driver version is 2.1.0.
Testing ... (interrupt to exit)
Axes: 0: 0 1: 0 2:-32767 3: 0 4: 0 5:-32767 6: 0 7: 0 Buttons: 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off 7:off 8:off 9:off 10:off 11:off 12:off
whats that supposed to tell me? is the pad working or not? what can i do to configure the buttons?

If you push a button or move the pad and the axis numbers change or the buttons go from off to on, then your pad is working. Did you configure your controller in zsnes first? I do not have a Xbox controller, so I cannot help you with that specifically, but I can try to help you get your controller working under zsnes.

when i push a button, nothing happens in the output of jstest.
zsnes doesn't seem to recognise my gamepad too.
But i found something else: a userspace driver using libusb for the xbox360-gamepad: http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/xboxdrv/
I'll try that one and post the results here.
