FC2: rpm hangs, slow responds in some programs, error messages in logfile

Hi!

I ran FC1 for many months on the same hardware, without these issues I
will mention. After I upgraded (fresh install) these annoyances pop up:

In shell, doing a rpm -ivh opera-7.51-20040602.1-static-qt.i386-en.rpm, rpm
will hang every time. Theres is no error message. I can't kill it with Control + C, I
must close the shell. Yesterday I installed another rpm i shell, and the package installed
but rpm did not exit, so no command line returned.

I have run up2date and apt-get without problems, but sometimes when I want
to run synaptic, by typing synaptic in shell, the prompt return but no synaptic shows up.
If I again type synaptic in the same prompt, synaptic starts.

I use Firefox 0.9.1 as my browser, as I did just before I upgraded from FC1.
There's clearly a difference in behavior. The respons in FC2 is slower, for example
opening a new tab takes some time before beeing ready, in FC1 it was instant.
Also Firefox chrashed 3 times in one day, usually it is much more stable.

Error messages in /var/log/messages:

Jul 5 12:37:16 workstation modprobe: FATAL: Error running install command for sound_slot_1

The slot_1 error in /var/log/messages seem to have gone after
I added "alias sound_slot_1 off" in /etc/modprobe.conf

I managed to install some rpm's by command line rpm -ivh ..., it
looks like synaptic blocks rpm somehow, as I had synaptic opened
at the same time as I tried to install manually.

It works quite good now, but I will report back if something happens
