    Install - Dell D830 GOOBER!!

    Dell Latitude D830
    chip T7700
    2.4Ghz
    4GB DDR2-667
    160GB 7200 RPM HD
    256 MVIDIA Quadro video card

Tried Fedora 8 for starters - LONG PAUSE when hits /sbin/loader
goes all the way to end of the install where it loads the boot stuff and gives error
"No kernel packages were installed on your system. Your boot loader configuration will not be changed"
UMMM there isnt a configuration if this is your first install

    NEXT: Tried Fedora 9 Beta
The issue with the long pause in the beginning of the install is gone but during the install somewhere during the file transfer and installation it shuts off (poor attention span when looking for the exact file/package). Tried several times with same exact results.

    NEXT: Tried CentOS
    same as Fedora 8

these were the BIOS options, some were configurable some were not.

    Code:
    Latitude D830 – BIOS version A10 (02/28/2008)

    Did some googeling and found:
once you boot off the CD you hit the escape command which brings you to the command prompt and enter

    Code:
     linux acpi=off apm=off
which helps solve the issue with the /sbin/loader long pause

during the install process you hit with the Grub configuration you have two options
    1. MBR
    2. First Sector

you will want to install it on the First Sector

Now have not done any playing the laptop to see if there were any other issues BUT at least for starters I got it through the initial install.

    Hello robert.forster,

The people in these threads will be interested in how you fixed the "No kernels" thing...

    http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/...d.php?t=182232

You had several problems besides that one, and you mentioned several solutions. I'm not sure what fixed that kernel business.

    What I did is :
hit "escape" key from the boot screen of the DVD
    entered command "linux acpi=off apm=off"
and installed in the "first sector" of sda1

    that so far worked.
I will get more feedback from the user of the laptop if there are any issues like my soundcard doesnt work or wireless doesnt work
