Exclamation Driver for SIS 671/672 (Mirage 3)

Hi guys,
following problem... i've ordered this Laptop and it has an SiS Chipset...
ive searched for drivers and found this thread in a ubuntuforum and in this thread is a link to this page page where i found an driver...
so my question what i should do? the ubuntuusers compiled the kernel new, so that the 2d-driver works, how do i do that on fedora 9?

ps: sis has an 3d driver, but gives it only to mainbordmanufactures, so that normal users cannot use it

It does not appear that the SIS 671/672 chipset is supported by the 2D SIS driver shipped with Fedora (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/sis_drv.so, part of package xorg-x11-drv-sis). Read: 'man sis'. IF it is supported, it should work OK out-of-the-box. You can check your xorg.conf to see which driver has been selected ("sis" or "vesa"). If it does not, you can try to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually to specify that driver, but it may not work correctly (or at all). See here for info by the original author: http://www.winischhofer.eu/linuxsispart1.shtml#12

Your post and those links are the first mention that I have ever seen of a 3D driver for Linux for "Mirage"-class SIS chipsets. If the standard 2D xorg SIS driver doesn't work, lots of luck trying to re-compile all that stuff for F9.
