Some websites couldn't be accessed, including freshrpms.net

hi guys,

I'm a newbie with Linux, and I managed to get a copy of FC2. I managed to get updates up and running the first time, but after some time, I'm now unable to use yum or apt-get to get updates.

At first, I thought it was just some traffic congestion with those sites. But I noticed that I'm unable to access other sites as well. When I boot back to windows, I manage to access them (including freshrpms.net, which couldn't be accessed under FC2).

Is there a way for me to check if there are web addresses that are blocked or something, or probably find the culprit that's blocking yum, apt, and even some of the websites I access?

Thanks in advance.

Unless you've disabled IPv6 (several threads here about that - just search), you will probably experience some issues with DNS lookups.

it didn't work. in fact, now the network card is not able to activate.

ok, if ever, is there a way that I could reset the config files to its default settings? if so, what are the files, and how do I flush the data out?

thanks in advance.

What didn't work? Editing "/etc/modprobe.conf"? If you want some help, you're going to have to provide some specifics, like error messages and what steps you took to get the error, etc. We ain't mind-readers, y'know... Well, okay, my wife is, but that's a different subject.

sorry. enabling ipv6 didn't do the job. now I can't even ping yahoo.com (prior to enabling it, I've still managed to do this).

I'm not sure what error messages I could provide because, as far as the browser is concerned, it simply says the site returned a 404, which is not much. After enabling ipv6, the only error I noticed is that the network card is unable to resolve its IP address.

sorry if that's not much. as I've mentioned, I'm a newbie, and I want to find better alternatives to windows...

what I want to do now is look for the config files, and see if I could purge its contents so that I could start from scratch. now, I have to rely on my usb network card because the one connected to the pc via pci is no longer detected...

After which, I'd like to reset my network connections so that I could execute either yum or apt-get...

Actually, you needed to disable IPv6. This is done by putting this line
Code:
alias net-pf-10 off
in the file "/etc/modprobe.conf" (as root, of course) and rebooting.

I did as you said, crackers... fortunately, I've managed to get my network card back up. The bad news, though, is that I'm back to my original problem...

Does anybody have any other possible solution to this? I still can't access several selected websites:

as what I've noticed, I can't access the following:

1. redhat.com
2. freshrpms.net
3. suse.com
4. kevinrose.com
5. mail.yahoo.com

I can access some sites like:

1. google.com
2. microsoft.com
3. yahoo.com

any ideas?
