You should still be including cairo-respect-fontconfig.patch - it's useful.

Ubuntu's karmic fonts are imho the best font's I've ever seen (forget mac or microsoft fonts) ... Fire up Karmic in kvm and check it out.
has anyone successfully created that same effect in Fedora 12? what steps do I need to follow in a fresh Fedora12 install to enjoy the same fonts karmic has by default?
Thanks in advance,
mrgrieves

Thanks for making those updated packages for Fedora 12. Have you included the "cairo-respect-fontconfig.patch" that brebs suggested?
I'm currently using the font packages which are here: http://www.infinality.net/blog/?p=5
Are your ones better than those?
Thanks!

The freeworld packages are better IMO as they don't replace system libs.

You've got to be kidding me. The whole point is that adding Ubuntu's patches, results in SUPERIOR system libs.
I do so enjoy stating the bleeding obvious yet again

I only had a quick look at the srpms but they appear to have cleartype and subpixle patches

Thanks so much for your help guys. So what do you suggest is the best way for me to get all the font rendering patches working on fedora 12? Does Ubuntu have a set of predefined config files describing how to best display each type of font? I found that with the patches I am using that I had to edit the ~/.fonts.conf file to get the proper hinting, lcdfilter, etc. working.

Re: Ubuntu Hardy's LCD sub-pixel font rendering in Fedora 9
I have installed the patches mentioned here ( http://www.infinality.net/blog/?p=5) along with the rpms from here http://www.infinality.net/blog/?p=10. Fonts look great in GTK apps but uber crappy in QT based apps. (see attached screenshot). Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem ?
