2001 tibook 667 xorg update broke my xorg.conf!

Hi, I've got a 2001 tibook g4 laptop (15 inch LCD with VGA and SVideo out) on which I recently installed Fedora 8. After some toying with the xorg.config, I was able to use the radeon driver and get some form of accelerated X. After doing an update (around 200 packages), I couldn't get X to start properly until I switched the driver to "fbdev".

After looking at the log output, I noticed that the radeon driver was probing the 3 video outputs and was reporting that there were no connected devices.

If I connect a vga monitor to the vga port, I get video on both the vga screen as well as the LCD screen, but the size is set for the VGA, not LCD.

Does anyone have an old tibook 667 working with the latest F8 Xorg and radeon?

Thanks,
Henry

Nope, didn't work for me either, but to be fair, it's a problem in other distros too. (Ati, ptooey)
I have little need for fancy effects, so the fbdev works ok at this stage.
After some discussion with a fedora genius, i understand repairing ati's general neglect of linux users in the form of the radeon driver is on the todo list.

Alex.

The kicker for me was that it (mostly) *was* working, but now there is some problem in detecting the LCD display. I wasn't after all the desktop effects, but rather I wanted the accelerated driver to speed up response and offload the CPU a bit (some things take *forever* with the fbdev driver). If it was working in previous versions, it should be fixable in the current (I'm just not familiar with the code to start hacking it).
