Hello blue dragon
Although the specification above tells us that your laptop has wireless, it doesn't tell us what wireless.
If you open a terminal window and type:
you will get a report back on most of the components in your machine.
If you copy and paste back the parts that relate to 'ethernet' and 'network' we'll be able to work out a way forward.

Hello blue dragon
Can't tell you about F6, it was end of life about 6 months ago as F7 will be end of life in about 2 months time.
It makes it difficult to remember how things were done then and to say what is available for download now.
My recommendation is to go for Fedora 8, at least you will have security updates for another 7 or 8 months. One of the features of Fedora is that it is a fast moving, 'bleeding edge' distribution and must not be looked at for long term use unless you are prepared to accept those limitations.
Fedora 8 has the new 'ath5k' driver installed by default and should recognise your card without the need for any other configuration.
Just start up NetworkManager which if you are lucky will already be on the top Gnome Panel in the notification area to the right. Connect to your access point and see how it goes.
I installed an Atheros based card last evening and although it appeared to work straight away with the ath5k driver and appeared to surf the internet well, when I attempted to transfer a large file it dropped the connection after 3MB.
If that turns out to be a limitation with your chipset then madwifi will probably be the answer. That is available for download from the Livna repositories and integrates with Fedora 8 easily and well. You would however need to blacklist that existing ath5k driver.
If you get to the stage where you need to do that, post back and we'll discuss it some more.

As bbfuller said, it's better to choose Fedora 8. It has at least better wifi support.
If you wants 3D effects, you should enable CompizFusion (it's not enabled as default). Here, on fedoraforum.org, is large amount of threads about it. Try search function and enter "compiz fusion" or only "compiz" text and you will get list of tons of threads about it
Enjoy!

should i wait until fedora 9 comes out (i mean in the bookstore magazines). as i am reading about its release and it says it was already released last month (due to some bugs, the gnome version was not made, but the kde version is).
and
what happened to enlightenment and all those other window managers ?
just using all the features of linux is pure enjoyment (like the auto- separate what window )

Hello blue dragon
At the moment the Fedora 9 release is a beta version and the final is hotly anticipated in the next month or so. Release dates usually slip. If you take into account magazine distribution schedules I don't think you can anticipate seeing Fedora 9 there until sometime in June. I wouldn't recommend Fedora 9 until you can get your hands on a final version.
I assume from the way that you speak that you don't have a freely available broadband connection? It's the easiest way to get a copy of Fedora - or perhaps you have a friend who will help with the downloading and buring it to CD for you to take home?
The other Window managers are out there, but mostly Fedora concentrates on Gnome with KDE and XFce included but lower on their scale of priorities.
