Writing to USB

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone experiences this:

I connect my USB to my computer (running Fedora 8), and the USB drive pops up on the desktop.
I then drag some files over to the USB drive, however, Fedora does not write those files until I click UNMOUNT. When I click unmount, Fedora begins writing the files, then unmounts the drive. Normally I am used to the files being written immediately as soon as they are dragged over to the USB (on Mac OS X). Is this normal?

I don't write to USB sticks much but that's the way it goes with floppies. I'm pretty sure it's normal.
