Filesystem error ! may be . But help !

My laptop : Satellite 1135-s125
Harddisk : 1-- External SATA(Joined to USb)--- contains linux
2. Internal IDE -- contains windows XP

my external harddisk requires external power source. Once i was running linux and power fluctuated. thus my external harddrive lost power for an instant and regained it. However, my laptop stopped responding after this. i tried to reboot but nothing worked. the screen froze with the contains of my RAM at that moment. it should some filesystem error saying that it cannot reboot when i tried cnt-alt-delete . so i had to manually disconnect my laptop from AC power and remove my battery and shutdown the system. then only my computer was reusable. Electricity in my country fluctuates very often so it is not possible to eject battery everytime this happens. is there any was by which i can, at least , reboot the system ?

Folks, desperately need help.

have a nice day

Try booting from a live CD and seeing what you can do with the external drive from there - can your install partition be mounted, for example?
Running e2fsck on whatever partition of the external HD you were using is probably a good idea too.

Regarding the power issue, I believe you can use an extension cable with some protection against power fluctuations, but I'm not sure - perhaps someone else knows more about this.
