can't execute binary file

After I enter the passphrase in fc9 beta, the next screen (has fedora logo and a progress bar) opens with the following error near the bottom of the screen;

/bin/bash: /usr/bin/nasd: can't execute binary file FAILED

a few linde below that it showsthis:

starting HAL daemon
this just sits until I enter y and then hit enter. Then it says FAILED and goes to the login screen.
I can login but unable to use Firefox or Thunderbird so have to send this email by MS.
Don't have any idea what to do. Thanks for the help. Newbie here too. Bob

PS After it lets me login, I entered a terminal as su - and was hoping to get updates but the terminal gave this message:

bash: /usr/bin/id: cannot execute binary file
bash: [: -le: unary operator expected

Wish I could send a screenshot but Firefox and Thunderbird won't open. Thanks again.

In my experience this could be a couple of things:

1) A bad installation causing corrupt files
2) Your hard drive could be on it's last legs causing corrupt files

Thanks for the reply. As to #1, the insatallation has been fine for a couple weeks so I'll guess this isn't it. LOL As for #2, that's a possibility. If this is not it, do you know of any remedies taht I can try? Thanks. Again, I can login and use the terminal window, but not sure what I can do with it. Or should I wait til next week and try again in hope the release candidate is available. Thanks. Bob
