Question How to install older kernel ?

Hi,

I have the following 3 questions

1
Where can I find and download older kernel packages ?

2
How do I best roolback to a older kernel version ?

3
How do I increase the number of kernel being keep as options in grub ?

Background

I have a system that fails while loading the linux kernel.

I need to install a older kernel in order to be able to load linux succesfully.

I know that a older kernel will work because I had the same problem with the 2 latest kernel versions.

Grub only keeps the 2 latest kernel versions to choose from and they are now both broken on my system.

Thank in advance.

Regards
Hans Christian

You really should do a forum search before you post.

You can control the number of installed kernels in /etc/yum.conf. Adjust
Quote:
installonly_limit=6
to whatever you like (here I have it set for 6 kernels).

When you first boot it will give you a countdown you simply hit a key and choose your kenrel.

You have not mentioned what version or arch you are running so I cannot get specific as to where to get the kenel.

Quote:
yum info kernel
This will tell you what is available in your repos.

OK - Found this threat Where do older kernels go?
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/...d.php?t=184610

I assume they are plug-compatible on similar platforms.

I am facing the problem that I can not boot any of the two kernel listed in grub
kernel-2.6.24.3-34.x86_64 or kernel-2.6.24.3-50.x86_64.

That mean I can not run any "yum" before I have found out how to load the rescue-CD in a way that enable me to run yum or rpm on the installed system in order to downgrade the kernel to one before kernel-2.6.24.3-34.x86_64 which workes OK for me on a AMD Athlon64.

The kernel crashes shortly after it is beginning to load the kernels
kernel-2.6.24.3-34.x86_64 or kernel-2.6.24.3-50.x86_64.

The crash happens immidiately after the udev is completed with [OK].
