I am currently trying to boot Fedora 8 from a portable hard drive and I am having trouble configuring GRUB. I am trying to have GRUB only on my portable so that I do not have to have it plugged in just to boot my computer. When I first installed Fedora on the drive I told it not to install GRUB so that way it wouldn't "accidentally migrate" over to my internal drive. After the install was successful I restarted the install DVD and told it to upgrade an exsisting installation, and configured GRUB that way. I told the installer to instead of installing it to the MBR to install it to the boot portion of my external drive. Everything completed fine. When I went to boot from the external though it just came up "GRUB" and a flashing cursor. I tried to type anything there and nothing would appear. Could someone please tell me what I have done wrong and how to fix it. Thanks.
