rpm "can't create transaction lock

I'm having problems installing packages with rpm. iI get "error: can't create transaction lock"

I'm running as "root". tries rebooting.

this may or maynot help but try deleting the file
/var/lock/rpm/transaction as root
"rm -v /var/lock/rpm/transaction"
then try it again

thanks, thats what I needed.

Thanks! I was updrading on old system, and merged the old and new /var subdirectors.

I was missing the /var/locl/rpm subdir.

I have met the same problem with FC2B version. In my case the /var/lock/rpm directory has disappeared,
I have just recreated it (a mkdir as root in /var/lock repertory) and i could play again ;-)

hello there I just became a member of this forum, I have installed Fc2 on my laptop it work great but i am having the same problem as u were having, But I still can't fix the problem I have download the newest xmms player but it gave me error error: can't create transaction lock I have check the dir /var/lock/rpm it was there but then on i have created a dir call /var/lock/rpm/transaction it still don't work I have delete and then replace it, no work. I keep saying to myself waaaaaaas up lol when there an error

try to close that little red thingy at the rigft bottom of your screen called up2date.

Thank it works let me ask u why would uptodate will conflict with rpm packet manager
