sound question, On board / pci sound

Would anyone know how to make my PC use the PCI sound card instead of the Onboard sound.

Some applications play on the PCI and others choose the Onboard one.

I always know that when I can't hear the sound but can see it's playing all I have to do is plug into the other jack and it works.

I know there's a configuration file you might want to see but I don't know how to search for it, or even what the name may be.

why have two sound cards anyway? ... disable the onboard sound in your bios

I know that in KDE I have a Sound Card Detection application. It has the option there to select the sound card you want to use.

the same about GNOME: System>Administrating>Sound Card Detection>Default Sound card

gnome-volume-control

Click on "File-->Change Device" and change it to use your preferred device. Also use system-config-soundcard to configure your sound card.
