Stuck at localhost login screen

I updated to the newest core, made some modifications in an attempt to correct some errors in the new kernel, and now when I boot into FC8, before I get to the User Login screen, I am prompted with a localhost/network login screen. I cannot add a host as prompted and the help screen is useless to me.

I need to find a way to get past this screen so I can login to FC8 normally from User GUI.

Any suggestions?

When you say you updated to the newest core, what exactly does that mean? Were you running Fedora 7 and upgraded to 8, or did you just run a normal update?

What modifications did you make? do you mean you re-compiled the kernel?

I assume you are talking about a console/terminal screen? Can you login as your user or root?

I should have stated that I ran the Software Update, and the Kernel updated.

The screen that came up was a GUI screen, similar to the Welcome screen, only this screen asked me to Add a Host. At the botom of the screen I had the following radio Buttons: Help, Rescan, Cancel and one other, that I don't recollect. I obviously made some change with the way I logon to the DE, but this screen comes up before I get to the User list and FC8 Logon Splash screen.
