F8 Installation issue: exception occurred

Hi!

Im completely new to linux as well as to fedora!
Now Im up to installing Fedora 8 with the DVD iso and every time Im getting this "exception occurred" error its spitting out a whole bunch of lines. I wasnt exactly in the mood of writing them all down for numerous reasons. One of those is those error messages tend to change from each installation try I take.
Anyhow I copied a bit of the stuff that I got:
Code:
File "usr/lib64/python2.5/pickle.py", Line 971, in loading-string
self.append (rep.decode("string-escape"))
File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/pickle.py", Line 858, in load...
What I already did to solve this issue:

[x] Did the checksum thing! Was allright!
[x] Verified the DVD after burnig! Was allright!
[x] Tried different loading options {linux acpi=off | linux acpi=off apm=off | linux ide=nodma }!Didn't work!

Is there anything else left to try ?

Thats the rig Im trying to get F8 to run with:

Intel Core 2 Duo E4500
2GB G.Skill DDR2-800 - CL5
Geforce 6600GT
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3

Thank you very much for your help in advance !
RG

[EDIT]
Oh and I should add this error occurs not always at the same stage but It seems to happend randomly up to where the installation tells me Its receiving installation informations. And I never got past this particular stage .
[/EDIT]

Definitely file a bug if you have a chance.

Are you customizing anything or just accepting the defaults everytime?

Maybe try the x86 version or even a Live CD to see how that goes.

First of all, is your architecture well support the 64 architecture ?

There should be a solution to this, but if ever the problem still exists, you may perform the installation without python and all dependent package (warning: there is lots ...).

Then install yum, and dependent packages "manually" (using rpm directly) from Fedora 8 repository, and then use "yum upgrade".

Thanks for you swift replies!

Well I am using the defaults every time.
My arch is supported ( Intel Core 2 Duo -> x86_64 ) and I haven't customized my installation a bit.
I even gave F7 a try. Similar error occurs.
Next thing I am going to do is getting me that live thing.
Maybe now is a good time to ask you guys is that live version enough to get a local game server / web server running ?

Okay 2nd to last try for now failed.
i386 showing the similar symptoms. It hangs after choosing the layout for my partitions.
Then again my hash calc isnt the same as the one the developers provided.
Im re-downloading the whole image one last time and giving it a last shot as well.
If it still refuses to work I am going for another distro.

In accordance with your first post, could you give more information about the error ?
The part you give does not seem to be a fatal error ...

Yes it is readable.
In fact the fatal error is at the end: "unknown encoding: string-escape".
I've take a quick look on Internet, and there is some words about problem with some motherboard (nothing about your Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3), and when compiling using frozen python.

When did this error occur exactly ? Just after the partitioning ?

Anyway, I understand it may be painful to face such issue, but if ever you are patient enough, you won't regret that ! Fedora is a very good distribution.

Thanks for the spirit upkeeping words of yours . Much appreciated !

Since my first error message I was trying numerous different versions of Fedora. And from what I saw the errors didnt were alike neither in content nor in place. Asking for similarities Phython was involved each and every time. But this one fatal error in particular happened right after I were asked If I want to review and modify the partition layout.

Thanks for helping out!

Do you have a way to create your partition with another software ?
Such a way, while installing Fedora, you won't have to do so.

Perhaps you will have more success while checking experiences of people (from Google for instance) about the particular error message "unknown encoding: string-escape".

Well seems like I am well out of luck.
I did partition everything as intended but that error still pops up.
Now Ubuntu runs just fine and I am thinking about leaving it to that.
I will look a little while longer for that fatal error on google but Im convinced there is not much about that message in particular.

Hey!

Here I am back in business as it appears!
I gave this bug file system a shot and filed one.
Today one of those red hat guys added a comment to my file saying the problem of mines is being addressed within Fedora 9 alpha.
So I am downloading the whole thing right now.
Wish me luck !
