Amarok - Selectively playing m4a's/mp3's/ogg's

Fedora Core 8

Amarok Settings:
Sound System: Helix Engine
/usr/local/RealPlayer/common
/usr/local/RealPlayer/plugins
/usr/local/RealPlayer/codecs
Output Plugin: OSS
Device: Default

Amarok plays mp3's, ogg's and m4a's just fine. Intermittently though, while playing a playlist, I will get the error "Helix Core Returned Error: Audio Driver Error" and Amarok will not play the song. If I manually select the same song two of three more times, it will eventually play.

Is the audio driver somehow interfering with something else?

Thanks for any and all help as always.

Have you got amarok-extras-nonfree installed from the livna repo?

Have you tried using another engine like xine?

Is there also any particular reason you chose OSS over ALSA?

Thank you!

The reason I am using OSS instead of ALSA is because I couldn't get ALSA to work. I'm sure I have some configuration settings incorrect. The files will play fine whether I'm using XINE or HELIX only if OSS is used.

Installing amarok-extras-nonfree has solved the issue of skipping over songs intermittently. BUT, I have to use either Helix or Xine with OSS. ALSA will not work.

Any other suggestions?
