Okay I'm having multiple issues with this new version (new to me at least) of Fedora 8. I was running 6 and decided to download the DVD and perform a clean install (upgrade) of it.
First issue I have is the GNOME desktop will not remember the screen resolution I set. I set it at 1280x1024 and it applies, then 2 seconds later it switches back to 1024x768. It tells me to log out and back in and then it applies it, but resets it back to the latter in 5 seconds. All my hardware (including graphics card/monitor) was properly detected by the installer. 1024x768 is a huge waste of screen real estate, and borderline unusable for me. ***

Second issue is the installer. I go all the way through a custom package selection only to have it tell me that there is a corrupt package after I let it check the disk and it says it is okay. I burn another DVD and it says it is okay, but this time I decided not to do a custom selection but instead let it install the base system and then incrementally add-on the other parts I need/want so that I do not overwhelm the package manager... **
Installer is relatively unstable. Where is the place to download the sources (in tar.gz or some other archive (non RPM) format, if possible)?.
Second Issue I have is the package manager. Not only does it crash ALOT (crashed like 5 times in first 15 minutes of trying to use it), but it's "dumb" as well. After installing the base system I open up the Package Manager and disable all but the "InstallMedia" Repository. After selecting the packages that I want/need in it, it tells me to "Please insert Fedora (disk 1) into your CD drive". Not only is the DVD already in the drive, my other drive is not a DVD drive, but just a CDRW drive. So it sits there for days telling me to insert the CD. "Cancel" doesn't even cancel it, either. The only way for me to end it is to kill it or log out and back in. ***
FIXXED : In Package Manager Edit the InstallMedia Repository and set it's path to "file:///media/Fedora 8 i386 DVD/" and it will update. I dont' know why the developers didn't put that as a default since CDs are mounted by their labels anyways. Their workaround forces you to download all those packages (for me KDE++++++++other stuff). <<- May be good information to put in the Fedora 8 HOWTO Wiki for others who encounter same problem, the workaround on FedoraProject.org is very inappropriate, IMO.
So I'm left with an only viable choice of enabling the huge Fedora repository and sifting through thousands of packages to find the ones that I need. Not only that, but it will probably take another 26 hours to download them, like the DVD, when I factor in actually updating them so I don't have a system full of security holes. **
