Hello doomd

One thing that is different in Fedora now from Fedora 4 is that you can have a live cd to try out before you decide to install.

If that boots to a desktop then you should be good to go. I'd recommend trying that.

Errors On LiveCD Boot

Hi all,

I'm attempting to install FC8 on an Optiplex G110, and on boot I get the following errors:

ata2.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2 frozen
ata2.00: cmd a0/01:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 cdb 0x28 data 4096 in
ata2.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)

Warning: Cannot find root file system!

Create symlink /dev/root and then exit this shell to continue the boot sequence.

bash: no control job in this shell
bash-3.2#
Anyone know what I should look for here? I'm competent at a command-line but still an overall beginner in Linux.

A BIOS check/update would be my first choice.

Already Checked BIOS

Thanks for the reply Nokia, I did check that first and upgrade from Dell's A02 BIOS to A09, which is the latest release available for the Optiplex G110. Anyone have any other suggestions? I have moved to Ubuntu Server myself but the information would be useful for others.
