wireless network card detects networks, but computer freezes when trying to connect

I used ndiswrapper to install driver (lstinds.inf) for my wpc54g v 2 linksys card.
In system>admin>network, my wlan0 wireless connection is shown. It won't activate using an automatic IP address lookup, It says can't find IP address, not connected. Although all of the wireless networks in the area are shown in the upper right hand corner of the screen. If I click on one, my machine freezes.

I tried using a static IP/subnet/and gateway addresses and wlan0 will activate. Mozilla still doesn't work, and when I select a wireless network, it still freezes.

Any suggestions as to why I can't get an IP address automatically or why I can't get my wireless working even though everything seems to be functioning??? I really would appreciate any help, I've gotten about as far as I can go on my own to get this working.

Thanks

Maybe you have two drivers loading for the same card?
I know in my case I had to blacklist ath5k.

Possibly a problem with Fedora using 4_STACK

Though that usually causes it to freeze as soon as you modprobe ndiswrapper...

I have the same problem with my desktop. My wireless card is a realtek though -- rtl8185. As soon as I put in the password and the network manager is acquiring the address it freezes.

I tried using the lsmod to look for the ath5k module, but I it is not in the list. So, I am assuming that it will do no good to blacklist it.

I used the dkms rpm packages to install ndiswrapper. I am assuming that takes care of the 4_STACK issue that you are talking about, but is there something else that you have to do?

A side note: I had the same problem in Ubuntu and I never installed any network driver. It was installed by default. But, it still freezes when it tries to acquire the network address.

If you install ndiswrapper, you may need to blacklist a driver if Fedora tries to use one by default, it won't necessarily be ath5k.
In my case it is because I have an Atheros chip.

su -
lsmod

will show you what modules are loaded.

If you used ATrpms and you installed their custom kernel ( not that I'm suggesting it, better to re-compile yourself IMO ) then the 4_STACK thing is not an issue. Otherwise it MAY still be since it's something that is compiled into the kernel itself.

NOTE - I don't know if that is the case. I was just throwing ideas out there since no one responded to this post.
