This is specific to FC3 and XP.
FC3 installed first
I have FC3 cds (including recovery) and XP.
I already have a dual boot GRUB arrangement where I have Linux and XP (Linux primary).
Due to some corruption I need to re-install XP.
What can I do to avoid re-installing FC3 as I have no issues with it.
Basically i want to restore the MBR / grub arrangement at the end of all this.
Is there some way I can back it up and place it back in?
Or does Fedora Core 3 have some recognition in built due to which when i place the FC3 cd(s) it will recognize and just change the boot sector and not install over?
I have installed OSs only once (in late 2002) and never needed any change here.
My kernel is a pretty new one 2.6.21 (if that helps).
My disk arrangement (partitions that is) would be intact.
Only where i have XP now, i shall be reinstalling XP, but it will rewrite the boot area(s) and I won't get FC3 in the boot options.
Linux is intact. I just want my grub as it is now, restored at the end of this ordeal.
I have a lot of valuable data in all the partitions (except XP system) and hence cannot take any risks (trial and error).
Thanks...
