Exclamation dvd cd rom not recognized

i went into k3b and the memorex i have is not installed. i was wondering if anybody could help me install the drivers or what ever the problem may be.
i think the problem is that the driver is not installed so linux doesn't recognized. i think that the auto run feature is missing to. ill look for it in yum ex or package manager. im not sure what it is called but i will look any way.

any help would be nice?
and thanks for reading.

do i have to install a particular kmod to get it to recognize. my kernel is 2.6.23.14-115.fc8

i also went into the services program and enable amd(auto mount daemon) and a couple of others. but it wont matter cause the drive is not seen in linux. the bios recognizes that it is there. the hardware profile program sees it as memorex ddl-in i think, ill have to look at it agin.

your help would be gravely useful because there are a lot of people who are do have the same problem as i.

Hello:
It looks like it is recongized okay.

If you put a commercial DVD (movie) in the drive and then use say Mplayer / Totem / VLC to open it what happens.

To get more information open a terminal and log in as root and type
tail -f /var/log/messages

Then pop in the DVD and try one of the applications to open it

Hello:
Those services should be running and not shut down.
There is an excellent guide to which services you need located here :

this is my k3b error

No CD/DVD writer found.
K3b did not find an optical writing device in your system. Thus, you will not be able to burn CDs or DVDs. However, you can still use other K3b features like audio track extraction or audio transcoding or ISO9660 image creation.
