it appears that none of the button, fan, processor etc. modules are loaded. im not sure wheather they are neccessary for non-laptop computers. are they? acpid is running and not showing any errors.

an interesting line from my dmesg is this one
Code:
[robin@nutshell ~]$ dmesg | grep power
powernow-k8: Processor cpuid 681 not supported
strange its trying to load that one since my cpu is a k7 model i suppose.
i do net get any errors in dmesg concerning acpi (in fact, i get no errors).

it is not the problem that i cant boot after hibernatemode but that i cannot enter hibernate. i even dont get the message "suspending consoles" on my screen. it just hangs after shutting down the graphics.

i cannot tell whether the suspendmode is initiated properly, but i cant wake the machine up afterwards (i pressed all buttons i could find being wired with my computer in any way to wake it).

some questions: do i need the acpi_cpufreq module (which i cant load, "...no such device...")?
is it possible i dont have enough swap?
is some component of my hardware causing the problem?
is there anybody out there with my board an cpu and hibernate working?

hope u got some advice,

elevar

You might want to take a look at this page for sime hints at troubleshooting your problem.

The same problem - Fedora 9 - but I really had to laugh at the proposed solution: If you do not know what quirk you need to use, or the quirk does not work with your system, please open a terminal as root, and then experiment just trying pm-suspend with different options. You guys are funny

I am having trouble as well...

Sounds like I am in a similar boat. I am running F8 on a Dell x300. Everything on this computer seems to be working perfectly with the exception of suspend and hibernate.

I went to the quirk site and downloaded and ran the script and get the message:

$ ./quirk-checker.sh
Checking your system...

Suspend should work!

However, if I suspend or hibernate the computer goes through the process of powering down. The problems occur when I try to resume. In both cases the power comes on, the hd light starts to blink, the cursor shows up with the blue circling ring, then I get a screen that is various shades of green with only outlines of all the windows displayed as solid green blocks on the screen. I can actually click on the boxes to change active windows or move windows around but cannot see anything because there is only green boxes. I can guess which window is the shell (or open a new terminal window with ctrl+alt+F1) and successfully reboot the computer and all is well but cannot resume from suspend or hibernate.

I have tried most of the quirks and get the same results every time with the exception of --quirk-s3-bios which will not even get that far--only get a fast blinking light on my power button and a click sound.

Nothing out of the norm (at least as far as I can tell) in dmesg or /var/log/pm-suspend.log. Not sure what other logs to look at or what to try.

my video info from lspci:
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)

I will be more than happy to post more info if someone can hit me with a clue of what other logs/files contain the important info related to this. If I can get hibernate/suspend to work on this laptop it will be close to perfect (for an old beater, anyway).

Thanks!

I am sorry/happy tho report the method & link to be valid & of great interest, I now suspend to Ram when the lid is closed, mac-like, excellent.

Don't forget you must try _combinations_ of arguments, on my Sony Vaio vgn-t17gp I needed dpms-on and vbe-post, as opposed to the script that proposed vbemode-restore & vbe-post.

Cheers community.
