OK so i fixed the previous error by uninstalling and reinstalling the kernel through yum. I'll give the ndiswrapper another try tonight.

If I read correctly you have a Belkin usb wireless adapter and from the other post I see mention of "belkin f5d7050 version 4" and "zd1211rw". I have several Belkin usb wireless adapters and they do not require "ndiswrapper or madwifi" . I use them with Fedora 7 and 8 without adding any extra modules. NetworkManager should show your wireless access points and you can configure from there.

Editted to add device belkin f5d7050 version 4.

It doesnt let me see it. This is core 7, but i also have a live cd of ubuntu that sees it instantly. I figure I'm missing something, I just don't know what. I don't know what the zd1211rw is, but I only have a usb belkin f5d7050 v4 wifi adapter. Under network devices, it does not show up... only my eth0 (garden variety realtek nic). Thanks!!

My Fedora 7 and 8 hard drive installs and a couple of the Fedora LiveCD's also "sees it instantly". You may have overlooked something or possibly upgraded the kernel and broke the wireless. You can try booting to a previous kernel or upgrading to a newer one if available. The zd1211rw is the driver for the Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter f5d7050 version 4000. Look in /lib/firmware and you should see a zd1211 directory and if for some reason it is not there you can install it via yum.
Code:
# yum install zd1211-firmware
.

EDIT: forgot to ask if you have NetworkManager enabled in "services" if so there should be a NetworkManager applet visible on the desktop panel.

Ok, I started network manager, and checked the lib/firmware folder. The zd1211 directory is there, but still no luck with my belkin wireless. Under network adapters it still only shows the eth0 realtek one? Is there a way to enable it, or do i add it as its own specific driver?

EDIT: RYptyde you rock... just unplugged and plugged the wireless back in and bam started working!!!! THANKS!!!!

Glad it is now working and I know how frustrating it can be at times to get things going especially wireless.

Does it show up in iwconfig? Let's start simple and see where the problem is.

The Belkin f5d7050 ver. 3000 contains a different chipset and the zd1211-firmware will not work with it. You might possibly need the rt73usb-firmware which is available from the repos.

Hello knownchild

If you run the command:

Code:
/sbin/lsusb
in a terminal it should return something like this:
Quote:
[bbfuller@atx17 Desktop]$ /sbin/lsusb
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04cc:1520 Philips Semiconductors
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04b4:6560 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C65640 USB-2.0 "TetraHub"
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Find the numbers for your wireless card that are the equivalent of those I marked in red for one of my USB devices.

If you do a Google search on those numbers you may well find enlightenment as to the chipset in your card. It'll be much easier to advise then.

Hello knownchild

I wouldn't want to rely on just access control based on MAC addresses as a way of securing a wireless network. Unless maybe my location was very rural. It will deter casual snooping but not anyone determined.

Same could be said for WEP of course.

Do you have the same problem with WPA which is much better but not unbreakable.
