No Net or Sound

Just set up with Fedora FC2 Test 3 a couple of days ago. Was very excited when it recognized by Radeon 9200SE which had only run under VESA in other distributions. It has it running on the Radeon driver . That was the good news -- bad is that though it autodetected both my DEC 21041 card and both the onboard sound and my Ensoniq 1371 card I cannot get sound going (beyond the CD players) or can I use the DEC card. When I configure for network it shows the card as eth0, not activated, with IP etc. that make sense. I use DHCP with a D-Link DI-614+ router. Yet when I tell it to activate eth0, it says it that the card is not present. Have read around the forums, but without finding anything that cures either problem. Your thoughts? Dave Danforth

I am not sure if this helps you or not. Is this an upgrade from Fedora Core 1? I recently completed an upgrade on my box (shuttleboard MB with Nvidia chipset). I could not get the onboard lan to be recognized either. The issue turned out to be a changed driver name. Verify your driver actually exists (named as "alias eth0 <driver name>" in the /etc/modprobe.conf file. If the driver does not exist, then that is the problem. Find a driver that fits your hardware, and point the "alias eth0 <driver name>" to it in the aforementioned file.

Hope this helps!

In looking in the driver directory, the driver name should be de2104x

So, change your /etc/modprobe.conf file to have the line:
alias eth0 de2104x

That should work. Good luck!

My thanks to klopfest -- that cured the net card issue.
