rythmbox stoped playing mp3s totem stoped playing movies

all right so my rythmbox doesnt seem to play mp3s anymore after today, i havent tested any other format because i do not have any. also totem stoped playing movies. totem loads and exits right away when tryin to play vids.

edit : so im totaly confused. after multi restarts, (i was running various live boot cds some game emualors none that should effect a hard drive at all) rythmbox started playing mp3s. however totem refuses to load at all. so why would 1 reboot not work and several change something?
