New server: what uP to choose?

I'm in the process of buying hardware for a new server. What uP shall I choose, Amd Opteron 3400+ 64 bits (to install FC2-x86_64 distro) or Intel Hyperthreading 3.2 (for the normal FC2 distro)?

What would you advise?

Thanks!

Ditto - the hyper-threading doesn't add that much more oomph for the buck, but that huge available memory space is just what the doctor ordered for servers. Memory is good, more memory is more gooder!

AMD 64 bit destroys anything Intel has to offer. I have amd 1700+ that outperforms most intel processors.

I would also recomend AMD 64. Don't think you should focus too much on MHz - memory is the key too succes!
