Asus M2N-SLI: no sound

I have an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe running FC8 all patches applied.
Sometimes the sound chip has been detected, sometimes not.
With the current kernel 2.6.23.14-107.fc8 it has never been detected.
The error message is:

hda-intel: Error creating card!
HDA Intel: probe of 0000:00:06.1 failed with error -12

I think that yours is an USB-AUDIO chip by cmedia.... Strange that it doesn't work...because fedora WAS (now my chip sayed goodbye...) the only distribution working with it by default.....

In ubuntu I used to fix this problem in this way:

HDA Intel? impossible....

have you recompiled kernel from source? make sure you activated the usb audio support...

bye

Really?

Tell that to my M2N-SLI Deluxe which seems to be working just fine with that module. Have never had a problem with it.. yet.

But then that's not surprising since onboard sound is detected as
Code:
00:06.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Unknown device 81f6
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18
        Memory at fe024000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]

I think I found the reason: it's my WebCAM (Logitech Pro 4000).
If the WebCAM is unplugged during boot everything works.
