X and Yum - download and install

Hi, I have FC3 text based and want to install X Windows. Can someone please guide me how to go about it. I think yum needs to be installed using rpm, but the yum I have with me is a src package and have no idea how to convert it to a binary. My yum file name is yum-3.2.8-1.src.rpm. Is this the right one?

Any help appreciated

Think is better to install Fedora 8. FC3 is too old and currently unsupported.

If you can't do this, use the command:

rpmbuild --rebuild yum-3.2.8-1.src.rpm

to install the source rpm and create the binary rpm, then you can install using.

rpm -ivh new_package

But no guarantees. FC3 is too much old.

You can modify your /etc/yum.repos.d file to look at that link as baseurl, comment out the mirrorlist. Give it a try and let us know how it went.
